Here
are a few of the events that we are involved in:
Easter
Egg Hunt
On the weekend before Easter, Centennial Park is covered with Eggs that were
filled with candy by the Senior Center members in conjunction with the Parks
and Recreation Department. The Juniors sponsor this event and the Easter Bunny
arrives at 12:30 for pictures and to meet and greet the children. Thereafter,
there is a mad dash for the goodies!
Memorial Day Thank You Cards
Veterans from Rose Harms Post #355 receive cards thanking them
for serving God and Country and for the freedom we all enjoy.
Disability Awareness Day
This program is organized and hosted by John Long Middle School
for the 7th and 8th graders. Children are given the opportunity
to meet with and learn about people who have physical and cognitive
disabilities. Financial and service support is available from
the Club.
Safety Town
A two week program sponsored in conjunction with the Grafton Police
Department for Kindergarten age children. They learn basic safety
lessons including stranger danger, pool safety, bus safety, fire
safety, Mr. Yuk and Mr. Ouch, etc.
Citizens in Action Program
The Club presents Military Bears dressed in military uniforms of
the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy to children
of deployed soldiers to match the branch of service that their
Mom or Dad is in. A seasonal care package accompanies the bears
to show support for the soldier’s family.
Education
During American Education Week, gratitude and appreciation is shown
by recognizing the faculty’s invaluable service to the students
and their community with the delivery of fruit baskets and munchies
to the Teacher’s Lounges of all Grafton schools.
High School Scholarship
A $500 scholarship is awarded each year to a senior planning on
attending college or a technical school. The selection criteria
includes active community service and financial need.
GALA In the Park
The Grafton Juniors have made financial contributions for the summer
music at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Conservation/Beautification in the Community
The Club sponsors a decorated tree in Paramount Plaza annually
and attends the HolidayTree Lighting Ceremony. They plant and
care for one of the Village’s Adopt a Flower Bed program organized
by the Department of Public Works.
Valentines to Assisted Living
At the February meeting the Juniors get creative in making paper
valentines and adding candy treats to be delivered to various
nursing homes and assisted living complexes.
Special Projects – Domestic Violence
At Thanksgiving a plentiful food basket is prepared and donated
by the Club and its members. It is either used by Advocates,
the Local Shelter, or given to a victim’s family by the Executive
Director of Advocates depending on current needs.
